Pines & Plains Libraries (P&PL) provides people of all races, ethnicities, and belief systems with safe places in which they can learn and grow through information empowerment. In the wake of worldwide protests condemning disproportionate violence and institutional bias against black people and other minorities, we can assure all Elbert County citizens and library patrons that our physical and digital branches will provide equitable access to diverse and abundant information featuring a wide array of perspectives. P&PL will also move forward in solidarity with the American Library Association’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (http://www.ala.org/advocacy/diversity). Our libraries serve as sanctuaries for civil discourse, respites from an increasingly polarized world, and marketplaces for ideas. We believe that both society and the individual are strengthened through access to physical, cultural, and intellectual diversity. All are safe at our branches. All are welcome. Therefore, P&PL would like to extend a special invitation to people of color, minority ethnicities, and diverse cultures who reside in and around our communities. Please allow us the honor of serving you through free access to items, activities, spaces, and technology.
